The Post Apocalyptic Earth
The stark and barren landscape of the Icelandic highlands will represent a spectacular future earth in Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi film Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise.
The film crew stayed in Iceland in June and July, enjoying the midnight sun. The filming took place in the highlands in the NorthEast near a spectacular crater called Hrossaborg (The Horse Fortress). In the Southern highland some of the filming was in an area near Drekavatn (Dragon Lake). Both areas are easily accessible with all services near by but still remote and unspoilt.
Oblivion will be released in 2013
The reimbursement scheme for film and TV production costs incurred in Iceland is simple and effective. Applications are sent to the Ministry of Industries and Innovation before the start of the production. Detailed instructions give an overview of the process and necessary documents.
